Sewing Together

Toward the end of the last school year, the children began a unique sewing project on our class Tapestree Table.  At that time, I had begun documenting each day's efforts.  Then, my computer started acting up on me and I never got around to posting more about it.  By the last week of school, the children had decided their collaborative efforts were complete and I took the work to a local framer to be properly mounted and framed.  Now, the finished piece adorns our classroom - a perfect representation of the the Class of 2011-2012 as we welcome the start of new school year!

  2. Thanks Abby Jo. It was a lot of fun and I look forward to having it out again this school year. This time, we might try linen instead of burlap... :)

    2. Hi Sasha, I was wondering if you could help me figure out how to make this amazing art piece without a tapestree table. I am in charge of my child's classroom auction project. I think this piece would be perfect for our "simply montessori" theme. I would love any advice that you would be willing to share. Where did you order the burlap? Can I buy the beads that you used at a local art supply store? I haven't done any research yet but I know this is what I want to do! It is so beautiful!!!
      Thank you,
      Kathryn

  4. Hi Kathryn,

Yes, the beads are and yarn are simply from the local craft store. The burlap came with the table, but you could just as easily use any that you find (fabric store, etc.). I remember seeing a post at Amy Plumey's blog, Sewing School, about a DIY Tapestree Table. She repurposed an old coffee table for a tapestree table! Here is the link:

    Good luck!

  5. I am just seeing this...I know, I know.... Anyway, wow! What a great tapestry! I love hanging mine in the classroom and they look so great - yours is framed so nicely, I'll have to try that too.

  7. Sasha,
Thank you for your Montessori blog. My son’s class has finished our class auction project and I wanted to share a picture of it with you. Your site was the inspiration for it and it turned out beautifully. Email me at kbhorner314@gmail if you would like for me to send you a picture of it.

    Thank you,
    Kathryn Horner
